Journalism

Recipient of the 2019 San Francisco Writers Conference Student Scholarship for High School Students

The San Francisco Writers Conference awarded me their 2019 scholarship. I was honored to attend and share my experience creating Fortune Cookie Surprise! with other authors, illustrators, and publishers.

Learning about Journalism by going to the NY Times Summer Academy:

The School of the New York Times Summer Academy gave me the opportunity to explore my interest of reporting in the big city.  It was an advanced writing course that taught me best practices in a city with the world’s most fascinating people, places and events. I learned research skills, interviewing, fact-checking, ethics, best practices and multi-platform journalism. You can download my article on products you didn't know you needed that can make you live more sustainably.

Writing and Publishing Articles for Teen Ink Magazine:

Teen Ink is a national teen magazine, book series and website devoted to teenage writing, art, photos and forums. Teen Ink magazine is available in libraries nationwide and has the largest distribution of any publication of its kind. I have been writing for the magazine since middle school (you can read examples here) and was overjoyed when one of my articles “My Summer Spanish Immersion Camp Experience” was published in the March 2018 print issue and featured on my high school website.

Creating in Yearbook:

I joined Yearbook as a sophomore and learned about layout, design and indexing.  I will be responsible for yearbook photos as the Candid and Club Editor, arranging photography at all major school events. I am excited to work with section editors to contribute to the overall production of the publication.
